Mark Edwards, CEO

Mark Edwards

Mr. Edwards brings 25 years of senior executive experience in building market leaders in the computing and telecommunications industries to Aylus Networks. Most recently he was CEO of Mformation Technologies Inc., which he built from the ground up to become the global market leader in mobile device management (MDM) software with over 40 mobile operator customers, and over 160 million devices managed.

Prior to joining Mformation, Mr. Edwards was EVP at Symbian, an operating system (OS) company whose OS has been shipped on over 360 million smartphones around the world and is today part of Nokia Corporation (NOK). Before that he held the position of Managing Director at Psion Computers PLC, a public company and provider of mobile computers and handheld devices, and was CEO and founder of CRT Multimedia Ltd, a provider of computer based training software. He was also a director of the Spring Group PLC, a public software and services company listed on the FTSE. In addition, Mr. Edwards served in senior executive positions at Microsoft where he ran the Windows business for the UK and Ireland, and Hewlett-Packard where he managed a global product line based in the peripherals group.

Shamim Naqvi, Founder, CTO and Chairman

shamim naqviShamim Naqvi founded Aylus Networks with the vision to change the way people communicate in emerging wireless networks by enabling subscribers to share multimedia in real-time during voice conversations.

Shamim is a well-known industry visionary and technology entrepreneur. Prior to founding Aylus, he was co-founder and chairman of Winphoria Networks, a Cellular Push-to-Talk and wireless SoftSwitch company now part of Motorola Corporation. Previously, Shamim was Vice President of Software Research at Lucent Bell Labs and co-pioneer of the revolutionary SoftSwitch technology for wireline and wireless networks.

Prior to Lucent, Shamim was the Chief Scientist and Chief Technology Officer for the Internet Business unit at Bellcore (Telcordia), where he was responsible for some of the industry's earliest e-commerce technologies such as Internet Advertising Servers, Billing for Micro-Transactions and Streaming Multimedia content. Before his post at Bellcore, Shamim was the Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Logical Information Machines. Shamim has also held executive management positions at Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation and AT&T Bell Labs.

Shamim has authored dozens of patents with dozens more under review in wireless and wireline technologies. Shamim is a distinguished speaker, and has presented and instructed at major universities around the globe, including MIT, Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers, and in Europe. Shamim is a graduate of Cambridge University and Northwestern University in Illinois.

Todd Barber, VP of Worldwide Sales

Todd Barber brings over 20 years of telecommunications experience, including nearly 15 years of sales and sales management experience in working with wireless and wireline operators worldwide to Aylus Networks.

Todd joined Aylus from SpeechCycle where he served as Vice President of Sales. Previously, Todd served as Vice President & General Manager, Americas, at Comverse, Inc. where he ran a $100 million dollar sales, delivery and services team. Todd joined Comverse as Vice President, Sales, Americas, and built a $30 million business in Tier 2/3 wireless carriers and cable operators in just 3 years. Todd has also served as Vice President of Telco and Vice President of Corporate Partnerships at SpeechWorks International (now Nuance Communications), Director of Telecommunications Sales for Stratus Computer, and Vice President of Americas Sales of Vicorp/Precision Systems. Todd began his career at Rochester Telephone (now Frontier/Citizens Communications) in their management program where he served in RCI Long Distance engineering, Rochester Tel landline engineering and Rochester Tel enhanced product development.

Todd holds an MBA in Marketing and Finance from the William E. Simon School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester, and a BS in Electrical Engineering with high honors from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Dan Coyne, VP of Engineering

Dan Coyne

Prior to joining Aylus Networks, Mr. Coyne provided consulting services in the areas of multimedia processing and telecommunications services. Before that he was at sentitO Networks, a venture-backed telecommunuications startup, where he held the position of Sr. Director of Engineering and led the product development team for over four years on the sentitO Intelligent Voice Gateway (iVg). The iVg is a SIP-driven, 5000 port VoIP gateway with analog and digital feeds, including high-speed IP network interfaces. He was responsible for the architecture definition, component selection, development and deployment of this equipment at sentitO’s initial telecommunications customers.

Before sentitO, Dan spent many years as the Director of System Engineering at DSP Software Engineering (DSPSE). Dan’s team was responsible for using DSPSE’s signal processing technology in leading OEM customers’ communications systems. Some of the key projects included the voice processing implementation of Salix Technologies 7750 VoIP gateway, simultaneous voice/data system for GM Onstar, ATT Wireless’ wireless local loop voice/fax/data replacement, and Nortel DMS faxmail application. He has deployed numerous systems using voice, video, audio, echo cancellation, and all forms of telecom/datacom signaling. Tellabs acquisition of DSPSE in 1999 (and $300M acquisition of Salix) was a result of the successful development of the Salix gateway.

During his time at Tellabs he was a senior voice technologist responsible to push technology and expertise into all divisions of Tellabs products, including PacketCable, VoIP gateways, VoATM gateways, and voice enhancement (line and acoustic echo cancellation) gear.

Daryl Gazzard, VP of Customer Solutions

Daryl Gazzard is responsible for technical sales and solution architecture at Aylus, where he brings over 14 years of experience in the telecom industry to this position.

Prior to joining Aylus Networks, Daryl spent 10 years at Cingular Wireless (now AT&T) where he held positions in Network Operations, Strategic Planning and was responsible for the implementation of the IMS architecture and VideoShare service. Daryl has also held senior management positions at Sonus Networks, Ericsson and Nortel Networks.

Daryl holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Information Technology from the University of Kent and has multiple patents in the area of wireless networking.

William Kwan, VP of Product Management

Bill Kwan brings more than 25 years experience in the management and development of networking and communication products to Aylus Networks.

Prior to joining Aylus, Bill was Director of Strategic Planning at Lucent Technologies and responsible for the planning and evolution of the IMS core, SoftSwitch and media gateway products. Bill joined Lucent through its acquisition of Telica where he served as Director of Product Management and Planning.

Previously, Bill held various executive technical management positions including Vice President of Technology at Telco Systems, CTO at Jupiter Technology, and Director of Engineering at CrossComm.

Bill holds an MS in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University and BS in Computer Science from Columbia University.

Raymond J. Pasquale, Managing Director, Business Development

Raymond J. Pasquale

Ray Pasquale, an entrepreneurial technology professional, has extensive sales and customer engineering experience along with proven management team leadership in dynamic, emerging technology companies. From 1999 through 2008, while at Sonus Networks, a market leader in Voice over IP technologies, Ray played a key leadership role in professional and customer services, business development, pre-sales and technical marketing. Ray was a founding member of Sonus's services organization, recruiting many of its most senior members.

From 1996 until 1999 Ray was a key technical leader and sales consultant for Cascade Communications' worldwide sales organization. During his tenure Cascade was purchased by Ascend Communications. Ascend, a leader in remote access technologies for the Internet market, was subsequently absorbed by Lucent in a merger.

Prior to 1996, Ray’s tenure with Digital Equipment Company included positions as Senior Consultant for Worldwide Network Operations, and Technical Leader and Senior Consultant for the Network Products Group. Ray’s commitments to excellence and ideas were recognized by Digital’s Customer Satisfaction Award, Storage Systems Excellence Award, and Delta Ideas Recognition Award.
