Aylus Networks Appoints Mobile Industry Veteran Mark Edwards as CEO
Brings 25 Year Track Record in Building Market Leaders to Aylus Networks
Aylus Networks™, a leader in helping mobile operators manage and monetize the explosive growth of broadband video and rich communications traffic on their networks, announced today that they have appointed Mark Edwards CEO. Mr. Edwards brings 25 years of senior executive experience in building market leaders in the computing and telecommunications industries to Aylus Networks. Most recently he was CEO of Mformation Technologies Inc., which he built from the ground up to become the global market leader in mobile device management (MDM) software with over 40 mobile operator customers, and over 160 million devices managed.
“Mark Edwards did a fantastic job for North Bridge at Mformation so we were very pleased when Shamim and he decided to join forces with the goal of building the leader in video applications for wireless,” said Edward Anderson, Managing Partner, North Bridge Venture Partners.
“We are pleased to welcome Mark Edwards as our new CEO,” said Shamim Naqvi, Chairman, Founder and CTO, Aylus Networks. “He is the perfect person to take the company through its next stage of growth as the market for mobile video begins to take off. He has a superb track record in leading companies to success in the wireless sector and strong relationships with the leading businesses in the wireless ecosystem.”
“We are excited to have Mark on our team as it is rare to find an individual who has previously achieved success in building an early stage company in a directly relevant space.” Paul Ferri, Founder, Matrix Partners.
“The industry has reached a tipping point where video calling and rich multimedia communications are becoming possible and being increasingly demanded by enterprises and consumers,” said Mark Edwards, CEO of Aylus Networks. “These services are core to the carrier’s business as they are an extension of the voice call. In order for carriers to seize this opportunity whilst protecting their network, they need to be able to manage, bill, enable third parties, and optimize rich communication sessions to provide a consistent quality of experience. This requires a new generation of scalable carrier grade infrastructure which Aylus Networks has developed and deployed in Tier 1 operators.”
Prior to joining Mformation, Mr. Edwards was EVP at Symbian, an operating system (OS) company whose OS has been shipped on over 360 million smartphones around the world and is today part of Nokia Corporation (NOK). Before that he held the position of Managing Director at Psion Computers PLC, a public company and provider of mobile computers and handheld devices, and was CEO and founder of CRT Multimedia Ltd, a provider of computer based training software. He was also a director of the Spring Group PLC, a public software and services company listed on the FTSE. In addition, Mr. Edwards served in senior executive positions at Microsoft where he ran the Windows business for the UK and Ireland, and Hewlett-Packard where he managed a global product line based in the peripherals group.
“Aylus Networks’ technical innovation puts us in a unique position to create value for mobile operators to help them increase their capacity and service offerings so that they can more confidently move into the world of video sharing and video calling,” Mr. Edwards added. “I am looking forward to working with mobile operators and content providers to help them grow their revenues and build customer loyalty.”
