Mobile Video Inter-exchange

The concept of only being able to reach a limited number of people because you can only call phones that are of the same type, or on the same network, or using the same calling software, is completely alien to modern day mobile phone users. But that is the way most mobile video communication services work. The mobile video communication landscape today is mix of over-the-top (OTT) services and communities of subscribers on different networks, using a multitude of different mobile video clients on a wide range of devices, who are unable to place video calls to each other. Subscribers to these new services are often unable to reach out to a wider circle of contacts because they “don’t have the service” on their device, often severely limiting the wide adoption of these new video services.

The Aylus Video Platform™ is changing this.

The Aylus Video Platform is unique in its ability to serve as the "interworking" mechanism for routing video communications among different networks—wireless and wireline—while ensuring that the signaling and media are converted for the different services and CODECs at each end. Sophisticated, built-in technology also transizes video streams for the screen sizes of the end devices, and transrates them based on the available bandwidth, optimizing video and other rich media for both the network and the endpoints. The platform also ensures that video usage is tracked and can be billed correctly, and that policies for video routing and usage can be enforced.

With the Aylus Video Platform handling the interworking functions, video calling and other video communication services can be offered as subscriber-selected options that are an integral part of the communication session. Subscribers can use their contact list or dialing function to start a voice call with anyone they choose, electing to upgrade the call to include live video if both parties have video capabilities. The beauty of this approach is that the initial call is not constrained to particular groups of friends or family members who happen to be on the same network or are using the same device or video app; it can work for anyone and everyone.

With the Aylus Video Platform, mobile operators and service providers can provide video communication services that just work—across networks, diverse communities of interest, differing mobile video apps and a wide range of devices. These mobile video interworking capabilities can also power a new market for operators and service providers—helping to drive mass-market adoption of new mobile video services.
